Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Big Boss // Kazuhira Miller // Paz Ortega Andrade
MISSION BRIEFING
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a 2010 stealth game developed and published by Konami for the PlayStation Portable. Set four years after the events of Portable Ops, the game follows Big Boss and his newly founded Militaires Sans Frontières (MSF) as they are hired to protect Costa Rica from Soviet and CIA-backed incursions. The mission uncovers the Peace Walker Project—a series of autonomous, nuclear-armed bipedal tanks designed to serve as a perfect deterrent against global war. Big Boss confronts former KGB officer Volgin, the mysterious KGB agent Paz Ortega Andrade embedded within MSF, and the philosophical architects of the project. The game expanded the series' mechanics with co-op multiplayer, base-building at Mother Base, and the introduction of the "Peace Walker" AI system. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest handheld games ever made and a pivotal entry in the franchise, as Big Boss's refusal to accept nuclear deterrence marks his final break with Zero's vision of a unified world order. The game's theme song, "Heavens Divide," became one of the series' most iconic musical pieces.
SUMMARY
In 1974, MSF is drawn into a global crisis involving nuclear-equipped walking tanks. Big Boss defends Costa Rica from invasion, uncovers the Peace Walker Project, and confronts the ideological architects of nuclear deterrence. The mission culminates in the destruction of the Peace Walker prototype at the Nicaraguan border. Big Boss's rejection of nuclear weapons as a legitimate defense philosophy solidifies his schism with Zero and establishes the core ideology that will define Outer Heaven.
