Metal Gear Solid
Solid Snake // Liquid Snake // Gray Fox
MISSION BRIEFING
Metal Gear Solid is a 1998 action-adventure stealth game developed and published by Konami for the PlayStation. Directed by Hideo Kojima, the game is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever made and revolutionized the gaming industry with its cinematic presentation, complex narrative, and innovative gameplay mechanics. The story follows Solid Snake, a retired FOXHOUND operative living in Alaska, who is coerced into infiltrating Shadow Moses Island—a remote nuclear weapons disposal facility in the Arctic Circle. FOXHOUND, a renegade special forces unit led by Liquid Snake, has seized the island and threatened to launch a nuclear warhead unless their demands are met. Snake must navigate through the facility, face off against the Genome Soldiers, and confront the Cyborg Ninja (Gray Fox). The game introduces Metal Gear REX, a nuclear-armed bipedal tank, and reveals that Liquid is Snake's genetic brother—a product of the Les Enfants Terribles project. The original PlayStation version was later remade as Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004, and both versions are included in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.
